John J Glutting was born on May 15, 1856, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, of immigrant German parents. He became part of the Voglewede family on May 18, 1890, when he married Lucy Voglewede of Decatur, Indiana. They had four children: Marie, Anthony, Raymond and Charles Glutting. John's wife Lucy died on February 28, 1902. Their son Raymond was adopted by his maternal uncle - Anthony Voglewede. John later moved to Attica, Indiana, where he opened and operated a harnessmaking shop. There he re-married a widow, Mrs. Caroline Friang, who preceded him in death on March 30, 1929. John himself died in Attica on January 1, 1941, at the age of 84 years.
Not very much is known about this gentleman who, in spite of his surname, became the progenitor of many Voglewedes in America.
